PR-agency KaiserCommunication supported the International Railway Forum "Strategic Partnership 1520: Central Europe", which took place February 20 to 22 in Vienna. The main topic of this year’s forum was the cross-border cooperation between countries of Europe and Asia to meet the growing demand for freight transport as well as to increase the efficiency of the existing rail transport across the East-West route. For two days, more than 400 representatives from the rail industry, politics, and business from 29 countries discussed the development and modernization of the rail infrastructure in the broad-gauge countries and the expansion of the East-West rail corridor.
Within the framework of the Forum 1520, ÖBB's CEO Andreas Matthä and Oleg Belozerov, Chairman of the Executive Board and Director General of Russian Railways RŽD, confirmed their intention to further cooperate and signed an amendment to the 2011 Cooperation Agreement. The new agreement marks the beginning of the extension of the Russian broad-gauge railway to the Vienna-Bratislava region and the connection of the European transport corridor to the Trans-Siberian railway network. In addition, the construction of the Eurasian high-speed line will enable goods to be delivered from China to the EU within three days. The amendment was signed in the presence of the Austrian Minister of Transport, Innovation and Technology, Norbert Hofer, and the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, Maxim Sokolov. Mr. Sokolov highlighted that the agreement is, inter alia, to foster intercultural people-to-people exchange across Eurasia.
